What should you do when you hear the sirens of an emergency vehicle approaching?

Deciding how to react to an emergency vehicle using blue lights and sirens can sometimes be a tricky dilemma. How should you react? Sometimes your actions may even inadvertantly impede or endanger the emergency vehicle.

The IAM (Institute of Advanced Motorists) has issued some useful advice on the best practice for other road users to assist all emergency vehicles to move quickly and safely through traffic. This can be found on their website (www.iam.org.uk) and by clicking here.

Skerries Team’s Emergency Rescue Vehicle

The team’s current emergency vehicle is an Isuzu D-Max 4WD. This is used to respond to all incidents and carries the full kit of rescue equipment.

Equipped with VHF radio, the vehcile can act as a mobile operations command centre.

The vehicle is also fitted with a high intensity remote control search beam.
