Scheduled training takes place on a weekly basis at the Skerries Coast Guard stationhouse at Red Island lane, near the harbour area in Skerries. All volunteers are trained and continually assessed in key search and rescue skills, including:
- 4WD driving
- advanced emergency first aid
- marine radio communications
- at-sea search techniques
- land based search techniques
- knots and rope techniques
- use of pyrotechnics
- night search techniques
- rescue operations involving helicopters
- response to aircraft accidents
- emergency driving (when responding to incidents)
- mapreading and marine chart navigation
- powerboating
