From drone operations to ground searches, our trained volunteers respond to a wide range of coastal emergencies.
Skerries Coast Guard operates UAV drones as a primary search and reconnaissance tool. Our drone team can rapidly survey large stretches of coastline, locate missing persons in terrain inaccessible on foot, and relay live video to incident commanders — dramatically cutting search times and improving safety for our ground teams.
Search and rescue is about far more than locating missing persons. Skerries Coast Guard responds to emergencies of every kind across our patch — along clifftops and cliff faces, on beaches and coastlines, and at inland rivers and lakes. Whether it's a casualty stranded on a cliff, a person in difficulty in the water, or someone reported missing, we activate a coordinated operation combining drone aerial coverage with systematic ground searches, working alongside An Garda Síochána, RNLI and IRCG helicopters.
Skerries Coast Guard works hand in hand with the Irish Coast Guard's search and rescue helicopters. Our volunteers are trained to set up and secure helicopter landing zones, manage ground safety around an aircraft, and support winch operations during a rescue. This close working relationship lets us move casualties quickly to definitive care.
All Skerries Coast Guard volunteers are trained in emergency first aid and CPR. Our teams carry first aid equipment and are able to provide immediate pre-hospital care to casualties at the scene while awaiting or coordinating with the National Ambulance Service.
Skerries Coast Guard works alongside other emergency services operating on the North Dublin coast, providing trained personnel and resources to support their operations during major incidents. Our volunteers are a valuable asset to An Garda Síochána, the National Ambulance Service, Dublin Fire Brigade, and the IRCG helicopter service.
Prevention is at the core of our mission. Skerries Coast Guard volunteers regularly visit local schools, sports clubs, and community groups to deliver water safety education. We also participate in public events, beach patrols during busy summer periods, and safety demonstrations.
Do not enter the water yourself. Call emergency services immediately and give your exact location.
