Earlier tonight, the Skerries Coast Guard team conducted a training exercise on Red Island. This invloved a night search of the Red Island area and subsequent treatment of a casualty with suspected spinal injuries.

Training: missing persons search
Earlier tonight, as part of their regular training, Skerries Coast Guard conducted a night search. The team were required to search an area of coastline north of Skerries. This was a scenario based search, developed around a callout the team were tasked to in recent months. Key areas covered included: night search techniques, radio communications, first aid, casualty transportation and use of rescue equipment.
Helicopter winch training
This morning, the Skerries Coast Guard team took part in routine winch training with the Coast Guard’s Sikorsky helicopter, R116. R116 was tasked to winch-transfer a search team to St.Patrick’s island. A short time later, R116 then landed on the island and brought the team back to the landing site at Red Island. A second team was taken on board and brought for an area familarisation flight along the local coastline.
