Balbriggan blessing of the boats – 1st June 2014

This afternoon, members of the Skerries Coast Guard team attended the blessing of the boats at Balbriggan harbour. This blessing ceremony, part of the community’s annual SummerFest, was conducted by Fr Eugen Taaffe at the harbor and was attended by large crowds. The Skerries lifeboat and crew also attended the ceremony. Darkness into light – Malahide Castle, 10th May 2014

At 4am this morning, seven members of the Skerries Coast Guard team joined thousands others at Malahide Castle to begin the 5km Darkness into Light walk in aid of Pieta House. Thankfully the rain clouds held off for a memorable sunrise over the Castle.

Over 4,500 people took part in the walk at Malahide Castle and nationally some 80,000 turned out across the country to show their support for such a worthy cause.

St Patrick’s Day parade, Skerries 2014

At 3pm this afternoon the Skerries Coast Guard team lined out at the South Strand, Skerries for the local St Patrick’s Day parade. Several members of the Skerries Coast Guard team marched the parade route, joined by the Unit’s emergency response vehicle. 

This year saw one of the biggest crowds attending the parade, cheering on all the entries. Thankfully the there was no rain during the parade, despite the dark clouds lingering overhead.
